You have to avoid downloading 3rd party Apps. Always install apps from the Google Play Store or App store only. Never download 3rd party apps & never install unknown apps on your phone
That is the most important reason for your smartphones getting hacked
You can simply avoid this just by disabling the unknown sources app install option (given in the mobile setting). We usually enable this option of unknown sources when we are downloading from unknown sources and forgot to turn them off after use. Only turn this setting option on when you really need an app that isn't available on the Google Play Store.
2. Always remember that downloading apps from Google Play Store isn't always secure. Many apps on the play store are removed because they have some issues and violate community guidelines.
And if you download an app that has some issues, you must have to take some precautions by managing the permissions of that app.
If you’re using google based Android 10 & above then you check all the permissions that an app is taking on your smartphone and set according to your needs and requirements.
For instance: If you have downloaded a game & it asks you for camera & microphone permission then it might be something fishy.
Red Alert! So please never ever give all the permissions to such apps which are involved in such activities & find an alternative for that app.
3. Always keep your apps & software up to date.
It is necessary to update because all these updates will fix the error, bugs present on Apps and your smartphone. If you’re running an updated Operating System(OS) or older apps then it opens the door for hackers.
It's compulsory to keep your smartphone up to date with the OS and as well as with the updated latest version of your apps.
4. Nowadays you've got numerous different accounts across various platforms, so always keep different passwords for all of your different accounts.
This sometimes becomes difficult to manage all of your passwords but you'll always use a password manager app to manage your different passwords.
Some password manager links are given in the description below so check it out.
Suppose if one of your accounts gets hacked & that password is linked to all other accounts then your other accounts can easily be hacked and may be used for illegal activities.
And always keep 2FA - 2 Factor Authentication turned thereon will further improve your security.
5. Always remember to take your device back-ups from time to time of all of your photos, files, messages, etc. Constantly keep it up taking back-ups every 10 days.
Because if your phone gets stolen or is misplaced then all of your phone data are going to be lost.
So it is necessary to take back-ups, activate Find My Device and take care of your phone.
6. We charge our phones a lot in public places and if you’re used to charging at public stations then please try to avoid this.
There are strong chances of a phishing attack on your smartphone without knowing you.
In fact, the adapters you see at public charging stations have some chip inside which will extract all data from your smartphone. So please do not do this.
Carry an influence bank to charge your gadgets but don't use public charging stations.
7. And do not install antivirus apps. They’ve really become useless these days.
Antivirus apps are generally not needed because the newest android versions work an equivalent thanks to protecting your phone. So do not download antivirus apps.
8. One more thing that is too important, we usually use a pin or password but never use a passcode or passphrase and that is the unsafest and worse for your smartphone.
Because pattern and pin can easily be hacked so it's always safe to use a passphrase which is a combination of numbers, letters (capital letter included), and special characters.
9. Need to tell you 2-3 things, we frequently browse in incognito mode thinking it's safe. But the reality is different, it's not that way & your ISP has all the info about your browsing.
If you would like to browse something private, use the TOR browser because it is quite a VPN ( Virtual Private Network) that will enable safe and secure browsing for you. But the normal incognito mode is not secure to use.
10. We do get different ads & personalized ads on our smartphones by Google or any other third-party apps. But it is often disabled in google settings.
This will close up the ads that you simply get supported your interest. So please turn them off.
