- Defragmentation of storage.
- Need of regular updates of systems as well as apps.
- Windows Defender, a pre-installed antivirus.
- Chrome, a highly Resource consumer.
- Update your system hardware
- Windows Customization.
- Need to restart your system from time to time.
1. When you start a Windows PC(personal computer)/Laptop you get a feature called Power Mode.
Power Mode - There are 3 (Efficiency/Balance/Performance) or more power modes during a laptop. Always keep it on Performance Mode, especially when you’ve plugged your charger. Otherwise, you can keep it on Balanced Mode or PerformanceMode as per your battery backup.
Else, keep the mode on Performance Mode to urge the height performance.
Most of the time you’ve to wait for apps to open because your system is in Balanced/Non-performance mode. So that the battery of your PC/Laptop is extended. So it is suggested that to keep it on Performance mode and you’ll see the difference.
2. Startup Program during booting - If your system is becoming slow while booting up, then check the startup programs.
You can delete those you don’t need or turn them off. When installing new software or updating the installed software, it often goes into the startup program & keeps running in the background and it creates a difference within the startup also as performance.
So check your Startup programs and only keep the ones you want otherwise turn them off which is not required.
3. Files - Nowadays people have 1TB hard disks, & your old files keep stacking which creates a difference in performance.
And just like Startup programs, check your files as well and do the same for this also.
4. Storage Sense - It’s a feature that gives you a dashboard, showing you the old files, cache files, and their details.
And according to your preference, you can delete some unwanted files & get more storage space.
5. Defrag Your Storage - Defrag your storage between 3-6 months or if possible, do the same within 1 month as even after deleting/saving the files on the hard drive.
The files are still present albeit you would possibly not see them, so defragmentation is extremely important. So that all files are in one place so that it is very useful to read/write/accessing them. And your PC will get faster.
6. Generally in smartphones we all know about updates instantly, But in Windows PC/Laptop It’s not that simple as it is in the smartphone, we install the software after getting 2-3 updates and we're usually stuck on the older software version of system and apps as well.
Please don’t do this, do an update to the newest version of the system as well as apps ASAP, it’s really important. If you check now, you would possibly see 20-30 programs with pending updates.
7. Nowadays, you don’t get to use Antivirus/Anti-malware/3rd Party apps.
Windows Defender(pre-installed antivirus) - It comes built-in If you've got a Windows Laptop and don’t install other 3rd party Antivirus apps or don't buy any Antivirus.
As they’ll hamper the performance of your Windows laptop/PC. Windows Defender, a pre-installed antivirus provided by windows is more than enough for antivirus, anti-malware, etc.
8. We all use Google Chrome a lot & it is hungry for power resources.
Resource Monitor(available in windows setting) - You might’ve opened only 1 tab, but if you check the Resource Monitor, you’ll see that Google Chrome eats a lot of resources like memory, Disk space, and more from your system’s CPU & RAM.
So keep control of it or it's better to switch to another browser like Microsoft Edge.
9. Many times there are hardware limitations of your Personal computer/Laptop as well if you go to Resource Monitor & if your RAM utilization is 70-90%.
Then it’s time to upgrade your RAM. If it’s 8GB or lowers then upgrade to 12/16GB or higher, if it’s 4GB upgrade to 8GB or more for better performance.
For a normal user, I’d say at least 8GB of RAM and 1TB storage should be there as 4GB is not enough nowadays.
10. Windows Customization - Many users customize their desktop with live wallpapers just like smartphones. But it has negative effects on the Resource.
So keep your setup clean and minimal to get better performance and PC/Laptop life. If you aren’t using a program, you can uninstall them or disable them(options available in apps setting), they affect your PC’s performance.
Bonus:- Many times we don’t shut down our PCs/laptops and we keep using it without restarting it as we feel lazy while doing it.
Restart Your PC - Keep a cycle, (i.e In 24 hours you’d turn it on/off). Don't keep it on forever. Most times people just close the lid of the Laptop putting the Laptop in a sleep mood while the system keeps running & it makes a difference and consumes a lot of battery.
So restart & shut down are very important.
These were very simple tips and tricks that folks(people) don’t do, (so it is a reminder article for you)
So that you can use, apply and get the most better performance out of your machine.
